The Third
Wednesday Club consists of a group of
ladies who love to piece quilts and quilt quilts. The group
began meeting once a month at La Joyce Johnson's shop in De Leon on the
third Wednesday of each month. The love of quilts and a
concern for others soon found the quilters meeting every Wednesday of
the month. The third Wednesday is still reserved for a pot
luck lunch at noon.
The quilters make full bed size quilts,
lap quilts,
and cuddle quilt size. These quilts are given to nursing
homes, the hospital, and anyone who might have a need for
one. We find joy in sharing our hand work with others.
The De Leon Quilt Show is an annual event held each 4th weekend in June
normally at De Leon City Hall. However, the 2012 quilt show will be
held
at the De Leon High School auditorium on Johnson St. All
owners of quilts are invited to
display their quilts. All types of quilts are
displayed. In the past quilt heirlooms that came to Texas in
covered wagons have been displayed. Rare quilts that survived
the Civil War have made an appearance. Museum quality quilts
have been presented in folk art quilts depicting people from
the community with a story for each one. All kinds of
patterns and designs from traditional to art forms are found in the
wonderful quilts on display. Fabrics and quilts from long
past are featured as well as reproductions. It is exciting to
compare the old and the new and see the likeness.
Everyone is invited to attend and spend
some time
reminiscing about the past in the beautiful quilts or getting ideas for
their next quilt. |
